Make Your Headset Quieter · 1083 days ago

At OregonAero they have made a kit for your headset that they claim will effectively reduce headset pain (SoftTop©, SoftSeal©), improve passive noise attenuation and intelligibility (HushKit©), improve transmission clarity (MicMuff©), and reduce perspiration around the ears and neck (SoftSkin©).

There is a kit for just about every headset and at prices of around $100 for the entire kit I don’t know if the kit is truly worth all the scratch. You can purchase one or two items from the full kit if you want just a few features.

For Example my LightSpeed 30 3G has pretty good ear seals and a headand but I do get a decent bit of hiss in my microphone from air in the cockpit (especially when the vents are open) so I am considering the MicMuff©. This would run me a staggering $13.00 plus shipping. Not Bad.

But my LightSpeed QFR Solo has in my opinion some of the worst ear cups I have felt so I am considering the SoftSeal© and the MicMuff©. This whole setup would cost me $52.00 plus shipping.

If I go through with this I will be sure to let you know what I think of them and the overall performance. Especially in regards to turning my QFR Solo from a marginally comfortable headset into an extremely comfortable headset.

******************UPDATE********************

I went ahead and purchased the SoftSeal© and the MicMuff©. Overall I have not yet fully tested out the MicMuff© (I plan on testing it in an open cockpit situation, either in something like a Cub or possibly an open cockpit Enstrom helicopter) I have though fully tested the SoftSeal© and they perform as desired. Switching out the cheaper, thinner pads on the QFR Solo it has reduced the squeezing points and pressure points that I had problems with. The QFR Solo has now become my primary headset.

More to come when I am able to fully test out the MicMuff©.
